However, respect for all religions became the corner stone of our societies everywhere and the common man learnt to live in peace and harmony.
As India attained independence, the process of economic development and modernisation was set in. Also came along the pangs of development. The post independent era witnessed communal fury as fundamentalists had their ways with ulterior motives.
The holy birth place of the Lord Rama in Ayodhya is one the finest example of our politico-religion strife. Vested interests have been successful in sowing the seeds of hatred. Terrorism raised its ugly head. Communal frenzy disturbed peace and harmony at various places.
In the process, many antisocial elements started reaping benefits to serve their motives. However, in the midst strife-torn society that emerged, there are people who have set examples of harmonious living by their noble deeds.
In the news recently was one such person who ran an extra mile to do his holy duty as a human being and as a true nationalist.
Amjad Ali was visibly upset when a Church walls in a sleepy township of Malerkotla in Punjab was demolished by some anti-social elements. Amjad Ali, without a second thought, rose to the occasion to balm the wounds of the Christian community by renovating the Church.
Amjad Ali heads the SOHRAB GROUP which currently employs 1500 persons directly and thousands indirectly. “We are all human beings and have every right to respect our brethren. Amjad is well-known for rendering yeomen services for the downtrodden and the needy in his area. He runs schools imparting quality education for the children of the poor workers.
The Sohrab Group today comprises of Sohrab Spinning Mills Limited, Sohrab Textile Mills Limited, Sohrab Impex Limited, MLG EXIM Limited, HARF Charitable Trust (Regd.), Sohrab Public School (English medium, 10+2, affiliated to CBSE).
Renovating The Church
“There very few Christians in this area and they have only this Church to say their prayers. Communal peace and harmonious living in this small town must not be disturbed”, says Amjad with conviction.
“By spending on the renovation of the church, I have done no favour to members of a particular community or class. In fact, I have tried to lighten the blot,” adds Amjad and rejects the claim that he did for the better image of a particular community.
