'Subsidies Do Not Make Enterprises Successful'
Oct 2010
“It is a demanding world today,” Keshav continues, “the demand for quality and on-time delivery is ever increasing and we have been trying to come up to the acceptable standards always and that is what makes us go stronger by the day.”
Shashwati Group manufactures auto electric components, electronic controls, medical electronics and cathodic protection products. They are OEM suppliers for global giants like Bosch. Their parts get into Hundai, GM, BMW Motorcycles, besides Tata Motors, Maruti, Ashok Leyland, Farm Equipments etc. They are also exploring possible business opportunities with TVS Lucas, one of the leading automotive parts manufacturers in India.
Recently the Karnataka State Financial Corporation in its golden jubilee sounvenir has short listed industrial houses who have achieved exemplary success and Shashwati is one of the chosen few industrial houses to be bracketed with giants like Infosys Technologies. “It is sheer pride for us but it also means a great responsibility to work better”, says Keshav brightly. They have already been decorated by excellent Suppliers Award by Bosch.
D.K.Venugopal, the other partner, sounds pragmatic in his vision when he comments on the growing SMEs sector. “In fact SMEs sector in India is in for a bigger and challenging role especially when we are looking at the double digit growth,” he says but laments that the sector has not come off age as of today.
According to Venugopal, it is the quality SMEs sector which gives our nation a promise. He says that there is yet a large number of people who initiate as an enterprise without any required knowledge and the necessary wherewithal and have only short-term goals. “If we are more concerned about availing the benefits and the subsidies from the government, it can be a disaster. Subsidies do not make enterprises successful. We need to upgrade our knowledge and planning and follow financial discipline for sustenance.
