Sardar Amar Singh -The founder of EYE Brand Axles
Tragedy and ill luck always accomp-anied the young boy. He had to shed his sweat at a time when boys of his age would play marbles making their lives vibrant with fun and laughter. Facing tough times, he lost his childhood somewhere along the way.
Hard decision
Once again, tragedy struck his luck as incessant rains played havoc flooding his entire home and workplace leaving him a penniless man. Faced with the immediate task of managing his kitchen, he took a hard decision to send his elder son to Africa for
earning. His younger son too was planning to join his brother to earn a better livelihood.
One day he shared with his village friend the planning of his younger son. His friend discouraged him and suggested him to start something new in the village. Frustrated, he could not think of anything. As both seemed to go into deep thoughts, they saw a truck nearby which had broken down due to axle failure. His friend's eyes brightened and he immediately suggested Amar Singh, “look at that truck, its axle has failed” and suggested him, “Why should you not start making axles?” Amar Singh walked up to the truck and looked at the failed axle shaft silently measuring within his searching eyes its specifications and his future.
Birth of axle
Back home, he told his son about his intention to start making axles. Together they bought an iron rod and prepared a temporary fire chamber and bought heavy hammers. It took them days hammering and shaping before an axle could be made. “Now take this to the market and sell it before we make another one”, Amar Singh told his son.
Scorching heat didn't deter his son who carried the heavy axle on his shoulder, sweating and canvassing with the shopkeepers. Days passed but his axle won't sell. One day he got success and sold the axle to an auto part dealer of Jalandhar. He got good feedback and received order for another axle, and for another axle and more axles and thus the story of the 'history in the making' began.
Amar Singh rejoiced at the success. He again met his friend and shared with him the success and asked him as to what should be the name of the brand. His friend went into thoughts again and looked at the sky. He unknowingly inserted his hand into the pocket of his shirt and out came a key chain on which was written EYE. His friend immediately suggested Amar Singh, “why not keep EYE Brand as the name of your axle.” Thus, started the long saga of EYE BRAND AXLES.
Though a celebrated entrepreneur in his own right, Amar Singh remained humble to the core with a down-to-earth personality.
