The Indian social setup has been traditionally a male dominated one. However,the traditional set up is changing in modern era. Women sector today occupies 45% of Indian population. The literary and educational status of women has improved considerably in last few decades. At this juncture, effective steps are needed to harness the economic potential of enterprising women in strengthening our economy.

Federation of Indian Women Entrepreneurs is a leading organisation representing women entrepreneurs from across the length and breadth of the country as well as from different strata of society.

Dr. Rajnee Aggarwal, President, Federation of Indian Women Entrepreneurs in conversation with Raj Pathak, Editorial Consultant, SME WORLD.

RP: Tell us about the immediate task which FIWE wants to accomplish.

RA: As you know, FIWE is a national level organization with a large membership base of 15000 individual members/professionals sand 28 member associations spread across the country. We are also affiliated with International Federation of Women Entrepreneurs (IFWE), which has a membership base of 21 countries and more countries are being added soon.

Our main task is to promote entrepreneurship amongst women and bring them in the mainstream. As of now, women are not given a fair representation in the MSME sector whereas their contribution is consideration.

RP: What are the major activities of FIWE?

RA: FIWE provides business counseling to aspirant women start-ups. We also provide hand holding and networking opportunities to start-ups and also to women interested in growing their business further. FIWE regularly organizes EDP and also the skill development programs in various cities/towns across the country. Over 5000 women have benefited in the past 3 years.

The interview is very comprehensive. I got a lot of information about changing state of women entrepreneurship in India. Also the policies of govt. are good. I think FIWE is also doing a good job. :)

well written, and for us who do not live in India, its good to know that there are organizations like this which caters to the needs of women. It is a fact that a lot of women are doing very well on their own now, having the confidence to open up their own businesses. Yet to have an organization which can give them that silent push to motivate women of their capabilities, is something to be highly appreciated.

I think its very important to cover every small small steps included in entrepreneurship...It helps in networking and able to learn how to resolve small but very important issues. Guidelines under this topic is up to mark. Very appropriate and sensitive topic for the nation and the least talked about. Myself , a woman entrepreneur can relate to all that is written in this interview and must say that FIWE is doing an excellent job in this space.

No doubt RP had summed up the FIWE in seven questions. It could be better if RA had elaborated while answering the question about Priyadarshini Award for the benefit of the readers of the SME World especially women entrepreneurs. I would like to know more on FIWE that in which area the organisation is working and what about the approach towards the different clusters related with the women entrepreneurs? Good interview. Thought provoking and igniting the women entrepreneurship.
