Unity is strength. Who does not know this? We have been taught this umpteen times in school with a variety of stories. Unity is not strength only when we work together or fight an evil together; it is also governing together. It is all the more meaningful when one works together to better the lot of millions of our poor countrymen languishing in abject poverty for years together. Alas, our politicians refuse to recognize the message.
Today, the whole country is facing difficult times. An average businessman is braving the unfavourable business climate and is reeling under tough times. The service sector is in shambles. Those who studied hard spending huge money to become professionals are a frustrated lot. Students seem to have lost all enthusiasm in their studies as they know there are no jobs waiting for them. Thanks to the MNCs and the high flying corporate sector, about 10 million people have lost their jobs last year only. The common man is full of hopelessness.
There are not enough schools to educate our children. Not enough doctors to take care of the health of poor villagers. We still need to bring potable water and power within the reach of our far flung villages.
The only one who is yet full of verve and vigour is our politician. The world\'s largest democracy is going through general elections to elect the lawmakers. It is irony that those with little mandate rule the roost. We have ministers ruling the country even while they received little mandate from the people. Regional parties who win meager seats ultimately decide the ways our government-to-be has to go. Open horse-trading, blackmailing goes on relentlessly election after election without an iota of shame. The nation is held to ransom by undeserving people. An open betrayal of the faith of the common man is blatantly indulged in by our political parties.
Killers, robbers and all sorts of criminals become honourable members of our parliament. Though all political parties have one single aim to be in power, yet they have different ways and speak different languages to woo the voters.
The solution is not unreachable. Let the two parties with biggest mandate join hands and desist the designs of smaller parties to make the balance of power. If the two parties together get a clear mandate, they must join hands and create history. The common man will be grateful to them forever. It is a precedent worth creating; a history worth making. After all, are not our political parties made for the welfare of the people? It is time they shed their egos and stand for the aam admi they wish to serve.
The crux of ideology of every political party is to see the nation go from strength to strength and save our millions a life of penury and pain. Let their manifestos have only one agenda to finish the dreadful word BPL from our economic\'s vocabulary.
Broaden your hearts. Open your minds. Be a visionary. This may not have happened anywhere in the world. But it can happen in India, if you want.
