81st Geneva Motor Show -The Festival of Cars: Their Sparkle, Innovation and Future

The 81st `Geneva Motor Show,' on which the curtains were drawn recently, brought to the fore the recovery of the automobile industry, reflecting the emphasis on green technologies and the upcoming models and those which will cater to the future.

One of the biggest motor shows in the world, the Geneva affair highlighted a clear trend towards ecological mobility. At a show where every inch competes, a Green Pavilion was dedicated for the purpose.
 

Open to the global public from March 3 to 13, a highlight for India was the launch of 'Paxel' by Tata Motors, which is intended to cater exclusively to the European market. It is a concept car and developed on the Nano platform.

The show presented an extensive overview of the automotive technology and design.

All the major manufacturers, renowned bodywork designers, and top preparation specialists were among the dazzling visitors, with nearly 170 World and European Premieres.

Also on display were the first mass produced electric cars. Even if opinion of manufacturers is divided on the future of electricity and the automobiles, as well on the influence that this energy will have on the reduction of CO2, more electric models than ever before were launched at the show.

Car makers were upbeat on the Indian market and were looking forward to expanding their capacities in future.

Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Head of Research and Development, The Volkswagen Group, told visiting journalists from India that the Group plans to launch new models in the country in a phased manner in the near future and ones that will cater to Indian tastes and climatic conditions. These include the new Pasat and new Jeta.
