It is only a handful of organizations in the country which realize and appreciate the huge contribution of the SME sector in the Indian economy. The SME Chamber of India sources its existence from the belief that 13 million SMEs in the country need all kinds of support, guidance and assistance to let these small business take off and prosper. Backed and patronized by eminent businessmen, industrialists, and bureaucrats, the SME Chamber of India came into being all because of the sheer initiative of Mr. Chandrakant Salunkhe, President, India International Trade Centre.
A membership based, not-for-profit organization, the SME Chamber of India undertakes a plethora of measures to enhance and promote domestic trade. This entails interacting with Purchase and Marketing Managers, undertake market development initiatives and conducting market survey and research. SME Chamber also organizes training programmes, study tours, project and Industrial visits.
Apart from promoting domestic trade SME Chamber also assists SMEs in the exports and imports sector. Assistance in provided in importing or sourcing quality products, latest machinery, equipments, tools, raw materials etc. at competitive prices. Buying and selling agents are appointed in various countries. SME Chamber also ensures representation in International Exhibitions and Trade Fairs to facilitate building of business contacts.
With an objective to educate and empower small and medium businesses through interactive meetings and various trade promotion activities the SME Chamber of India and India International Centre (IITC-India) have set up the 'Business Club'. The Club undertakes a host of activities for business promotion and development in small and medium enterprises. The most important feature of the club is that it provides an interface to businessmen and prominent people in industry and government ministries.
The Business Club organizes meetings to exchange business opportunities, trade and export enquiries etc. Interactive and face-to-face meetings with eminent personalities from the International Trade and Marketing, diverse industrial sectors, and ministers and officials from governments departments and ministries are also held.
In recognition of the high growth potential of the Indian market and rapid progress scaled by the economy in manufacturing, Food Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Textile and Garments and the retail sector, the SME Chamber provides a range of support services to business units. These include providing export, import and business enquiries, providing information on marketing strategy and investment opportunities, obtaining trade and project finance and credit rating, assistance for revival of sick units etc.
The SME Chamber of India and India International Trade Centre have formed several platforms such as Indian SME Knowledge Forum; India-China Business Development Forum; SME Development Institute of India etc.
In the wake of a serious dearth of educational and training institutions in India, The SME Chamber of India and IITC-India have taken fresh initiatives to organize educational activities, training programmes and international level promotional activities, conferences, seminars, workshops, study tours etc.
