'Cloud Computing' Natural for SMEs' - - 'Partha' S. Parthasarathy
Jan 2011
There is a whole gamut of business consumers which are also termed as entrepreneurs. Many business to business related companies which offer their products or services to small companies are also looking at the business consumers in smaller enterprises even in smal towns and rural areas.
The scandal recently unearthed was the IPO of a famous finance company which blatantly used the huge market 'at the bottom of the pyramid'. This segment is now being targeted by almost all the large companies and even by many startups. When it comes to business consumers i.e. SMEs, the situation holds a great untapped potential.
Enterprise Advancements
Many Information Technologies (IT) companies and IT enabled services providers are adding SMEs into their priority sales programmes. They are launching various solutions keeping in mind the specific requirements of the SMEs and their affordability. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) related solutions are being launched every day by many information or management solution providers.
Another technological advancement that is getting popularity is cloud computing. Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared servers provide resources, software, and data to computers and other devices on demand, as with the electricity grid. Cloud computing is a natural evolution of the widespread adoption of virtualization, service-oriented architecture and utility computing. Details are abstracted from consumers, who no longer need to have expertise to operate or to control over, the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them.
But a perception is also originating in the market that most such solutions that are available in the market are either too complex in its function to be easily operated by SMEs or too costly for them to afford. Also many SMEs prevent themselves to adopt such solutions because they feel more comfortable to work within their domain and in a traditional way they for a long time. So, it is very tough to motivate them to adopt such solutions which can ultimately boost their enterprises' working.
SME WORLD tried to find out more on information and management solution provider companies which have a technical edge for providing solutions for SMEs; their solutions are not too costly or too complex to adopt; and above all their usefulness for the SMEs.
