UID is a mega-project which targets the whole India. But there are many private companies who have been providing various identification related services e.g. electronic identification cards. With advent of such cards there have been significant orientation towards it and more and more companies willingly adopting it. Companies are offering such cards to their employees. It enables them to keep track of their employees, in terms of their attendance as well as using any facility at the premises e.g. new-age printing, fax, café, etc.

But the popularity of the electronic ID cards are not just limited at the company level but many retail chains, hospitals, cafes and so on are now offering these cards to customers. Such cards carry unique number which can be read by their respective card readers and it helps the service provider to track the record of their customers.

The services have been provided by the dedicated vendors who get order from the companies to make such cards. This is a cumbersome process and requires too much time as well as expenditure. But now the trend is changing. Many companies are coming up with many high-value card printers in line with the rising demand from the companies especially SMEs. They are offering different variants of the card printers which differ in terms of the requirement and budget of the company.

What future do you see of such electronic identity cards after the full-fledged UID cards?

UID is a process that has been started by the government to create a single valid database of every iniduals of this country. It would be like a base service which will help the government to render the services to the common which will be able to take the advantage of the schemes. The government will be able to estimate about the quantum of the services required. It will also enable the Government to ensure the services are reaching to the targeted segment of the society, for example, PDS system, NAREGA, etc. This card will not be copied as it will verify the iniduals with their retina, finger prints, etc.
