‘Alifest 2010' Displays the Power of e-Commerce

Netpreneurs' forming an expanding global community of small business owners using e-commerce and thought leaders from around the world converged at a gala summit called 'Alifest' at Hangzhou, China on September 10 and 11.

AliFest is an offline extension of Alibaba Group's e-commerce communities, which comprise millions of small businesses worldwide who regularly meet, chat, search for products and do business on the internet.

The mega event lasting two days included the annual Netrepreneur Summit/West Lake Summit, formerly known as the e-Business Conference. The event was hosted by Jack Ma, founder, chairman and CEO of Alibaba Group.

Special guests included giants like John Donahoe, President and CEO of eBay Inc., Liu Chuanzhi, founder of Lenovo besides California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jon Huntsman, United States Ambassador to China, and several prominent Chinese business leaders.

The highlights of the summit was the featuring of the 'Top 10 Global Netrepreneur of the Year 2010 (formerly known as the Top 10 Global e-Business Champion of the Year) award ceremony, the 5th Alibaba.com-Taobao Net Products Trade Fair, the Women's Forum, as well as thought-provoking panel discussions and presentations from noteworthy entrepreneurs.

Now in its seventh year, the two-day summit, attended by over 4000 small business entrepreneurs and others, offered a unique platform to the e-commerce community worldwide to exchange views, interact, network and mingle with the community members of different colours & hues and also listen to the luminaries representing a variety of fields.

The well-organised festival evinced panel discussions and presentations from prominent business leaders including Alibaba Group Chairman Jack Ma; Alibaba.com CEO David Wei; Liu Chuanzhi, chairman of consumer electronics giant Lenovo Group; and Li Shufu, chairman of Geely Holding Group, one of China's leading automakers.

Media Presence

The widespread media presence included over 50 persons from international publications including SME WORLD besides hundreds of home journalists from print and visual media.

Themed "New Netrepreneurs, New Business Paradigm," AliFest 2010 focused on exploring how the internet can foster new, collaborative ways of doing business more efficiently and at lower cost.

Speaking to a packed audience, John Donahoe announced that the future holds a great promise for electronic commerce and the Internet. “The era has just dawned and is still young; online sales is at an early stage.”

He said the future of mobile devices, online shopping and payment will have an enormous impact. Three years later, there may be 50% of the online population use mobile internet, rather than using a laptop or desktop computer to the Internet.
