Breather for SMEs

In times of crisis and economic turbulence, the government has come to realize that the economy cannot be sabotaged unless enough impetus is given to lift the morale of the small and medium enterprises in the country.

Ever since, the news of recession spilled over from the US to the rest of the world, the small and medium enterprises have the worst hit. Slackening domestic demand and a severe crunch in export orders from countries abroad have made matters difficult for the SMEs. Several labour-intensive SMEs have closed down or the workers have been thrown out of their jobs.

However the recent government announcements of a host of measures for the SMEs will now boost industry sentiments and further bail out the sick units.

For the credit-strapped entrepreneurs, the government has announced guarantee cover of 50% for loans between Rs.50 lakh to Rs.1crore for such firms. The lock in period for loans covered under the existing credit-guarantee will be reduced from 24 to 18 months o encourage banks to cover more loans under the scheme.

Besides the government will instruct state-owned companies to clear early bills presented by small and medium sized firms. Easing of credit conditions generally should help public sector companies to make such payments on schedule. Government will issue an advisory to central public sector enterprises and request state public sector enterprises to ensure prompt payment of bills of small and medium enterprises.

GRASP (GRam panchayat Accounting System by Prithvitech) was catreed to meet the need of accountants for a software, which could generate accounts reports for villages in a predefined format as specified by CAG.According to the requirements set for creating Gram Panchyat (village) accounts, expenses/income under various heads are to be slotted into ready-made categories (adding a new expense/income head is permitted). The account reports are presented in 16 preset formats, including annual expense under each category, monthly expense by category, cash book, etc.Special emphasis has been paid to the usability of this application.
