'Connecting More People Means Bring in Huge Dividends' - Dr. Sam Pitroda

The government has taken note of the importance of the SMEs sector in India and the connecting people and the impact of seamless connectivity that will bring in huge dividends. India, where majority of the industries comes in SMEs sector, If SMEs do not change, the nation will not change.
Thses remarks were of Dr. Sam Pitroda, Adviser to Prime Minister, Public Information, Infrastructure and Innovation India during his address in SME IT Summit organized by Small and Medium Business Development Chamber of India (SME Chamber of India) and Maharashtra Industrial and Economic Development Association (MIEDA) with the support of Government of Maharashtra, in Mumbai recently.
The Summit was organised to highlight the importance of adopting IT solutions by SMEs as well as to encourage the SME Sector to get into the IT and ITES business with the theme of “Leveraging Information Technology and Innovation for SME Growth”
Emphasising the importance of information technology for economic growth, Dr. Pitroda reiterated that IT is all pervasive and find applications in personal, business and government levels.
National Knowledge Network
Elaborating on the government strategies, Dr. Pitroda pointed out that it was being implemented in different platforms including a broadband connectivity throughout India, national knowledge network to connect education Institutions, connecting all the panchayats, unique identification project for all citizens, mapping of roads, streets etc., national security and payment platform to connect the customers with bank and establishments.
Emphasizing about the need of the innovation, Dr. Pitroda said that it is a necessity in every walk of life right from individual, family relations, schools, colleges and hospitals which will fuel the growth. As a nation having 50% of the population below the age of 25, it must be our aim that we should be innovative for a decade ahead.
Special Division for SMEs
Elaborating on the opportunities in SMEs sector, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Chairman, ETH Ltd and Architect of PARM series of Supercomputers, said, “There is an urgent need to set up a special division to assist and guide the SME Sector to exploit the enormous business opportunities available in India and abroad. I suggest SME Chamber of India should initiate appropriate measures in this regard on the lines of NASSCOM which will become the foundation for economic growth.”
